Matt McAllen here — I train IOSH. I do audits. I see what gets missed.

I’ve been in health and safety for nearly 9 years — but my journey started long before that. I’ve run four businesses of my own, so I know what it’s like to juggle safety, staff, and staying afloat. In total, that’s nearly 20 years of getting stuck into real-world problems in business and safety.

Right now, I work as a delivery consultant for one of the UK’s largest health and safety consultancy firms. I carry out audits, fire risk assessments, and train people on the IOSH Managing Safely course. I’ve worked across quarries, waste management, agriculture — and these days, I consult across most industries (just not high-risk stuff like nuclear or offshore).

Why I Created - THE SAFETY PRO

Every time I run a course or complete an audit, I see the same thing:

• Good people being handed theory… and left to figure the rest out.
• Overwhelm is creeping in by the final day of training.
• Businesses ticking boxes but struggling to make safety stick.

I can feel it in the room. That moment where someone realises:

"I get the theory… but how do I do this in my workplace?"

The Safety Pro was born out of that moment. I wanted to give people practical tools, strategies, and support that go beyond the course — beyond just “be compliant” or “follow the regs.” Because safety isn’t just rules and risk assessments. It’s about decision-making and knowing where to start when everything feels important. That understanding comes from years of experience, and also from my own journey — through therapy, self-discovery, and making plenty of mistakes.

My Style

I’m not here to preach.

I’m not here to bury you in checklists.

I’m here to help you make sense of it all — so you can take action, get buy-in, and build systems that actually work in the real world.

What I share on this site is grounded in experience — mine and others’. It’s for people doing the job, not just writing the policy. And it’s written with one goal:

"Help you go from I’ve passed the IOSH course to I've got this handled like a PRO."

This site is here to coach, guide, and give you tools that actually help.
But it’s not a replacement for your formal health and safety advice, audits, or legal duties.

Think of it as your unofficial backup — like the mate who helps you figure stuff out when everyone else just quotes the regulations.

If you need formal advice or someone to sign things off, speak to your appointed health and safety advisor.

This is where you come to make it make sense — not to tick every legal box.
